Over the past few years, Georgia has been rapidly growing and booming with small businesses.  Georgia has become a hub for innovation and creative ideas, a place where entrepreneurs can come to act on their aspirations. Atlanta, GA is the named the 7th top city in the United States to start a small business in. Most of Georgia’s revenue comes from small businesses. So what are the challenges for small business ? Staying in operation,  funding, keeping a consistent cash flow. These are just to name a few.  Many consultants, such as myself, have seen over the years, how businesses begin and in the next 6 months or few years, close. The Fishbone Diagram: Why Every Team of Process Owners Should Use it

The Fishbone Diagram is a very powerful tool used in process improvement. It helps identify the cause and the effect, and sometimes a condition is established. Some of the reasons why this tools is effective because it:

– Study a problem/Issue to determine the root cause
– Study the potential reasons why a process/ product is having difficulties, problems, breakdowns, and failure
– Identify area for data and information facts collections
– To evaluate why a process is not performing properly or producing the desired results.
– It allow the team to capture everyone’s ideas & thoughts in a structured manner.

Helping Businesses Define their Processes

As a Lean Six Sigma Specialist, it is very common to see the errors in many organizations business models and processes. Majority of the times the errors lie  within the systems or duplicating processes in the system. Let’s discuss that. As business owner, managers, and executives, we notice the problems begin when our profits/revenue begin to decrease. Our first response is to get more people in to help increase the profits. This is not the case all the time. Majority of our problems are in a processes. We waste time, over spend, go through too many controls and approvals, and really duplicating. It can be as simple as the too many people billing the same invoice or an invoice did not go out because it requires too many signatures. Organizations need to see the errors and how a change can help by using diagrams, charts, and statistics, to show the significants, percentages of increase, and decrease to the Product Owner or Key Executive. Organizations rely on consultants to help implement the change and find the solutions to the problems identified.  Consultants can help with business process improvements, implement continuous flow, cost reduction and savings, and define guidelines.
